Looking at the latest CDC statistics, 35.7% of American adults are obese, leading to an estimated cost of $147 billion extra to our health care system. This is not a trend that is decreasing either. If you watch the interactive map, using Georgia as an example, in 1990, the obesity rate was 10-14%.  In 2000, the obesity rate was 20-24% in Georgia.  And, in 2010, the obesity rate was 25-29% in Georgia. However, despite these alarming statistics, universities across the country are reducing, and in many cases, cutting undergraduate requirements for physical education.
