Basic Fitness
I read something about heart rate while reading about the FITT Principle, but need more information. How would my heart rate change based on moderate or vigorous physical activity?
Click on the following link “I” (Intensity) link, to read an article by The American College of Cardiology about measuring intensity.
>Visit the following CDC’s pages which also explain the use of a Target Heart Rate Zone or the Perceived Exertion Scale as ways to measure intensity.
>Calculate your target heart rate zones using the Percentage of Maximal Heart Rate:
MODERATE PHYSICAL ACTIVITY
50-70% |
VIGOROUS PHYSICAL ACTIVITY
70-85% |
|
MAXIMUM HEART RATE | (220-AGE) x .50 (or .70) | (220-AGE) x .70 (or.85) |
TARGET HEART RATE ZONE |
50-70% of MAXIMUM HEART RATE | 70-85% of MAXIMUM HEART RATE |
