3. Health-Related Components of Fitness

The five health-related components of fitness are important to perform at optimum levels during exercise or to be able to function efficiently on a daily basis.

Health-Related Components of Fitness Assessment
Cardiorespiratory Endurance

The ability of the heart, blood vessels, and lungs to deliver oxygen and nutrients to the working muscles.

  • Vo2 Max Test
  • 1.5 Mile Run or 1 Mile Run Test
  • PACER Test
Muscular Strength

The maximal force produced by a muscle or muscle groups against a resistance.

  • 1 Rep Max Tests
  • Handgrip Strength Test
Muscular endurance 

The ability of the muscle or muscle group to sustain a contraction repeatedly over a period of time.

  • Push Up Test
  • Sit Up Test
Flexibility 

The range of motion in a joint or group of joints.

  • Sit and Reach Test
Body Composition 

The percentage of stored fat in the body compared to the percentage of all other tissues.

  • Body Max Index
  • Skinfold Calipers
