You might be wondering…

Why should I be required to take PE at The University of Georgia? This is a common question among many UGA students.

The University of Georgia has a tripartite mission of excellence in teaching, research, and service.

Throughout the PEDB courses, we believe that we are not only teaching you, but also that your education and understanding of physical activity will serve as a hub of knowledge for those around you in the State of Georgia and the United States – ultimately to combat the obesity epidemic.

Let’s take a glance at the PEDB Program Philosophy

“…to promote lifelong physical activity and fitness for the enhancement of health and well-being.”

Motivation to increase physical activity and fitness can be enhanced by incorporating knowledge about fitness into activity classes. This chapter will provide you details concerning important factors that could influence one’s motivation to being active:

Lesson Objectives
By the end of this chapter, you will be able to:
1. Describe the impact physical activity can have on healthcare costs.
2. Recognize the prevalence of obesity within the United States.
3. Identify the health benefits of physical activity.
4. Understand the purpose of this PEDB course is to graduate you from a lower level of physical activity to a Level 5.
