4. Activity Basics

As a first-time explorer, what are some activity basics that I need to know?
The list below is your discovery guide as a first-time explorer. It outlines what’s to come in this sub-module. Take a look at each of the links and/or frames listed, which provide you access to “the basics” for a handful of outdoor activities.

1. Hiking/Backpacking basics: This is a great way to explore and adventure into the natural environment. As a beginner, it is important to plan ahead, keep it simple, and be prepared with the correct equipment and clothing.

2. Rock climbing basics: It is often noted rock climbing is fun, enjoyable, and for those individuals who like a healthy dose of adrenaline. To get started make sure you find a guide, identify the type of climbing you would like to participate in, purchase the appropriate gear, and find your route.

3. Bicycling basics: Biking can include a variety of types including urban cycling, road biking, and mountain biking.

4. Paddling basics: Being out on the water enables you the freedom to explore, however it is important to understand the basics such as equipment, learning the strokes, and safety precautions.
