1. Rules & Key Terms

Racquetball has many intricate rules and regulations. The USA Racquetball has done a nice job of teasing out the most basic rules and explaining them in a short illustrated overview, along with presenting many resources to improve your game.

Below are some basic rules you will need to know:

  • A match is won by the first player to win two games. The first two games are played to 15 and if necessary the third game is played to 11.
  • Points are scored only by the server after the receiver fails to return the serve or the server wins a rally.
  • To serve an individual stands in the service zone while the receiver stands behind the receiving line.
  • The ball remains in play until the ball touches the floor a second time, regardless of how many walls it touched.
  • An individual cannot obstruct or hinder the player who is trying to receive the ball. It is the responsibility of the individual to move out of the way.

USAR has created a downloadable/printable rulebook for racquetball. Download the rulebook and discover the rules that will help you perform well in your next racquetball game.
