General Application Assignments

The philosophy of the PEDB program is to promote lifelong physical activity and fitness for the enhancement of health and wellbeing. To foster the extension of physical activity and fitness outside of class (Levels 3 and 4 listed on the syllabus), you are required to complete Applications. The applications are course-related experiences that take place outside of scheduled class time and include ONE Activity application and TWO General applications. Once you have successfully completed an application, submit it to the application assignment dropbox on eLC. 

You are required to complete and submit evidence for 3 Application assignments for 5 points each.

  • Chapter 1 Activity Application (These instructions can be found at the end of the Activity Chapter)
  • Chapter 7 General Application 
  • Chapter 7 General Application 

The following chapter will outline and describe the options for the General Applications. 

Chapter 2 – Relevance 

  1. Submit a half-page document answering the following question: What are the benefits of having a PE requirement, such as at UGA. Please explain your answer in detail. Submit your document to the Application Assignment Dropbox on eLC. 

Chapter 3 – Healthy Lifestyle 

  1. Complete a five-day journal entry consisting of:
    a. One column of school-related events
    b. One column of work-related events
    c. One column of social-related events
    d. Write a paragraph evaluating your work-life balance.
    The worksheet for this application can be found on eLC under the sub-module Application Assignment worksheets. Complete the worksheet and submit your document to the Application Assignment Dropbox on eLC.
  2. Find an app that will support and contribute to maintaining a healthy lifestyle. For example, Calm, MapMyRun, or Sleep Cycle Tracker. Provide the name of the app, an explanation of what it does, and the pros/cons. Also, provide a screenshot of the app after you have used it. Submit your document to the Application Assignment Dropbox on eLC. 
  3. Attend a UGA Health Promotion Program. Provide evidence of the registration and write a reflection of your experience. Submit your document to the Application Assignment Dropbox on eLC. 

Chapter 4 – MENTAL HEALTH & WELLNESS

  1. Complete the Stress Test provided by BeMindful. Once you have completed the test, take a screenshot of your score. Explain what strategies you will use to manage and cope with your stressors. Submit your document to the Application Assignment Dropbox on eLC.
  2. Complete the Chronotype Quiz by Michael Breus (the Sleep Doctor). Once you have completed the quiz, take a screenshot of the email of your chronotype. Explain what some of the characteristics of your chronotype are and explain how your sleep behaviors may change because of these results. Submit your document to the Application Assignment Dropbox in eLC.
  3. Complete the Burnout Self-Test provided by MindTools. Once you have completed the test, take a screenshot of your score. Explain what strategies you will use to manage and cope with your burnout. Submit your document to the Application Assignment Dropbox on eLC.

Chapter 5 – Fitness 

  1. Using the FITT Principle, develop a two-week fitness plan which focuses on one of the health-related components of fitness. The worksheet for this application can be found on eLC under the sub-module Application Assignment worksheet. Complete the worksheet and submit your document to the Application Assignment Dropbox on eLC.
  2. You have learned how the SMART approach can be an effective goal-setting tool, it’s time to think about your goals for this semester and beyond. Using the SMART approach, develop your own set of SMART goals. The worksheet for this application can be found on eLC under the sub-module Application Assignment worksheets. Complete the worksheet and submit your document to the Application Assignment Dropbox on eLC.
  3. Identify what could prevent you from reaching your goals this semester by completing the CDC’s Barriers to Being Active Quiz. Once you have completed the quiz, list your personal barriers to being active and explain some of the solutions you will utilize to overcome these barriers. Submit a one-paragraph document in the Application Assignment Dropbox on eLC

Chapter 6 – Nutrition  

  1. Complete a three-day food diary, outlining what you ate for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Use the MyPlate food groups to evaluate the number of servings of each food group per day. Are you getting enough or too many servings of each food group? Please briefly explain. Submit a document in the Application Assignment Dropbox on eLC.
  2. Using one of the following apps: MyFitnessPal App, Ate Food Journal, or Peace with Food. Address the following: What did you like about this app? What did you dislike? What surprised you? Did you notice any changes in your eating habits after using this app? Submit a document in the Application Assignment Dropbox on eLC. 
  3. Listen to an episode from one of the following podcasts: Food Heaven, Food Psych, or iWeigh with Jameela Jamil. Then, in a word document name the episode title, provide a paragraph summary of what was discussed, and identify 2-3 important takeaways you learned. Submit a document in the Application Assignment Dropbox on eLC.
